Search & Lookup Email IDs to Find Out Who is Emailing You

Why did gmail change their search options on the search bar above the inbox?

It always gave us the option of searching our email or the web and it was incredibly helpful. Any one know how to get it back?
It always used to have web or mail as options and it was very helpful. I know you can get it back by clicking on "older version" but I want it back on the new version.

You can let Google know just how important the "Search the Web" option is to you, how you used it, and how unhappy you are about its removal — the threads to follow or for filing a complaint are below.

Remember, BE SPECIFIC, the more details, the better:

Also, you can file a suggestion with Google via this link:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=suggestions.cs (Suggestions > I have another idea > Other > Bring Back the "Search the Web" option!)

When you arrive at the Suggestions page, scroll to the bottom of the page where it says "I have another idea," choose "Other" from the drop-down list, and on the first line of your entry entitle it "Bring back the "Search the Web" option!" (BTW, some IE users may receive a Security Certificate error when confirming their suggestion; if so, click continue to web page, and Google will thank you for your suggestion via an HTTPS page.)

Also worth noting is Steve Rubel’s blog of November 2008, "Making Gmail Your Gateway to the Web." Rubel is a fellow Gmail user and expert commentator on emerging technologies, and in this thorough and excellent essay he articulates beautifully what Gmail users have tried to express about the value we gain from the "Search the Web" option and how Gmail — WITH the "Search the Web" option — transforms (errr…make that "transformed" for the moment) mere webmail into a powerhouse tool for running and organizing his business and communications.

If you are an employee of Google reading this thread, among the doubters about "Search the Web" and its usefulness, or among its supporters, you will find Rubel’s vivid demonstration enlightening:

Google, bring back the "Search the Web" option!
